Yay gadgets! Innovation, where would we be without you? We’d like to thank you for Furbo, a treat-tossing dog camera.

Don’t you hate that part of your day when you reach the door to head out to work, turn back and catch your pet looking forlornly in your direction? (Actually, I have cats who don’t give a damn what I do as long as I’ve left them sufficient kibble). But for those whose pooches seem to pine all day waiting for mom or dad to return home, the Furbo might be the perfect solution. It’s the world’s first treat tossing dog camera. Note I did not say treat dispenser but treat tosser. Yes, this neat little contraption can actually send Rover flying across the room in pursuit of something tasty, all the while hearing your voice praise him for being such a good boy.

The unit itself is about the size of an air atomizer and essentially sits on any small table or counter while baby-sitting your pooch (never fear, it has super strong 3M tape to secure it and that means it ain’t going anywhere!). Not only does it include a camera (with 4 x zoom for when your crafty canine gets into stuff) and 2-way audio so you can reinforce his good behaviors and “correct” him on his not-so good activities but it allows you to reward him throughout the day by flinging a goodie into the air. What’s cool is that just prior to the moment the treat launches, the unit will light up in a cool blue hue that stimulates his optical receptors and will begin an audible clicking noise similar to what professional trainers use. Like a modern-day Pavlov’s dog, Rover soon knows what all this activity means and will position himself in front of the unit faster than an outfielder in a bases loaded playoff game.

Furbo delivers live streaming HD audio and video in crisp 720p over a super-wide 120° angle lens meaning regardless of where you place the unit your little sneaky Pete is always visible. It also has a built-in infrared LED filter that offers an incredibly clear view despite low-light conditions – important for those late work nights.

What’s also pretty neat is that you can store photos and videos of your pooch for your personal enjoyment or to share on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or other social media platforms.

Thinking this might solve separation anxiety issues for both you and your pet? Here’s how it works. Once you’ve received the Furbo unit you simply download the Furbo App (already available as a free download on the App Store and Google Play) and sync it to the device. Load the unit with your little guy’s favorite treats and each time you swipe the “treat” image on your phone you’re instructing the actual unit to shoot a treat out towards your pet.

The Furbo app works not only on your smartphone and tablet (iOS + Android) but also your Apple Watch. While never as great as being there to personally deliver the goods, you can reward your pooch’s stellar behavior with just a flick of the wrist.

While nothing can replace that special one-on-one relationship we have with our pets, it’s nice to know that we can still spoil ‘em from afar.
