If you’re a foodie and want a canine companion that will share your passion for snacks, this is the gal for you! Our Adoptable Dog of the Week is Gretel, a little over a year old Shepherd mix from Versailles, Kentucky. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and microchipped. To boot, the shelter also dewormed her, did a blood test for heartworm, and she comes with a starter bag of food, collar and leash, and a coupon for a veterinary exam following adoption.

Gretel’s Tale

If you want to see this pretty pooch wag her tail, just bust out some treats! She loooooves food and never turns down a snack – which can come in quite handy when it comes to training as she’s very food motivated. She is very energetic and playful and essentially acts like a very big puppy, so she would do best with a family that can provide her with the exercise she needs to burn off that excess energy. A sweet and loving dog, Gretel loves being around humans and will love getting some belly rubs and ear scratches after a long day of adventuring. She hasn’t been tested around cats or dogs in the shelter, but has a very friendly demeanor – you might want to ask about a meet and greet if you have pets in your family already to see how they’ll get along. All in all, Gretel is a young dog with a great personality that would benefit from experienced adopters that could teach her the ropes and shower her with the attention and love she so deserves.

If you are looking for a four-legged best friend whose description fits Gretel’s, contact Woodford Humane Society to learn more about her and how you could be the one to adopt her. Who knows, she might just become your new family member!

A proud mama to seven dogs and ten cats, Angela spends her days writing for her fellow pet parents and pampering her furballs, all of whom are rescues. When she's not gushing over her adorable cats or playing with her dogs, she can be found curled up with a good fantasy book.
