Crocs for Pets Are Now a Thing – You Can Get a Matching Pair, Too!

Crocs took the world by storm once they were released. Superbly comfy, good for the feet, and somewhat quirky, these “clogs” were irresistible to some and ugly to others. But love ‘em or hate ‘em, you definitely know what Crocs are! And while they have been around for quite a while, our pets never really got a chance to experience their unique comfort. But that is all about to change. The Crocs brand is now expanding its range of models – to fit pets as well. 


This October, the brand announced the upcoming release of Pet Crocs, the new version of the iconic clogs that are designed for dogs. Collaborating with the dog products brand BARK, they came up with a new design that incorporates those classic elements of the Crocs, while making them safe and comfy for dogs.


According to the brand’s spokesperson, the inspiration for their new Pet Crocs is directly fueled by the numerous fan requests for the design. The pleas for this to be made came for years – and now the time has come for them to be answered.

Starting on October 23rd, fans will be able to purchase a variety of Pet Crocs designs via Crocs.com. (The date is now aptly called “Croc Day”.) What is more, owners are assured that all the iconic elements of the Crocs are preserved in the latest version. The comfort, the ergonomic design, and the durability are all present in the Pet Crocs as well. Of course, they will be available in a number of sizes, from small, medium, to large. Dogs weighing up to 80 lbs (37 kg) will be able to wear them comfortably.


The new design will be available in new quirky colors such as Pink Dragon Fruit and Green Slime, with glow-in-the-dark elements. And to make everything even better, owners will be able to buy them for themselves too – in the same colors. This means that you can now match your Crocs with your pets’! Talk about making a fashion statement in the doggy park, am I right?

However, a short conversation with the neighbor revealed something amazing… Celeste and her new neighbor were best friends in the shelter before they were adopted! Offering even more insight into the incredible situation, Michelle wrote: “What a small world! Today we found out that our next door neighbor’s dog was adopted from the same shelter, nearly 2 hours away from where we live. They were both rescued as young pups, and each spent 9 months at the shelter… with a 6-month overlap. This was their first time seeing each other since being adopted.”The video of the two dogs running and playing has now gone viral on TikTok, with over 300 comments and 7.6K likes. It’s a reminder of the many emotions a dog in the shelter system can experience—from meeting new friends to leaving them behind for their new forever home. Dog Poop Incident Grounds a United Airlines Flight

Have you ever been on a flight where your travel experience didn’t go to plan? If so, you’re not alone! From unruly passengers to flight delays and rough weather conditions, so many factors are out of your control.But what about a mid-air doggy disaster?Travelers on an April 5th United Airlines flight from Houston to Seattle learned the hard way just how quickly a traveling pooch, an unfortunate aisle, and the need to “do some business” can create a very unpleasant situation.According to Reddit user James Hobbs, a passenger’s dog had a “messy accident” in the aisle in first class after taking off. He went on to describe the chaotic situation that followed. Since his post, others have shared their experiences on the flight. Additionally, a representative from United Airlines confirmed the event occurred to reporters and larger publications.Unfortunately, this pup didn’t just have a stinky bowel movement. Other travelers described it as being in “very liquid form” with a scent so strong that passengers were given alcohol wipes to sniff to drown out the strong odor.After being diverted to Dallas, ground crews set to work cleaning up the putrid mess for a solid two hours. However, even that wasn’t enough…“The mess was so bad in the first-class bathroom that even after cleaning, they still closed it for the rest of the flight,” described Hobbs. They responded well despite having to hop over the mess.”For pet parents, this incident raises concerns that other travelers may question the policies for pets traveling in the cabin. United Airlines allows pet parents to travel with up to two pets. Each pet must fit into a carrier small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Passengers with two pets must purchase two tickets, side by side, to accommodate the spots needed for each pet. As of April 26th, a $150 fee each way is added to your ticket cost for including a pet.During the flight, pets are required to stay in their carrier. Mars Unveils Results from the World’s Largest Pet Parent Study

There is no arguing that the world of pets is constantly changing and evolving. Once seen as practical tools on farms, while hunting, and in other scenarios, cats and dogs are now considered part of the family. But what exactly does that mean? A new study called the “ Mars Global Pet Parent Study” focused on answering precisely that question. Collecting opinions and insights from over 20,000 cat and dog parents across 20 countries, making it the world’s largest pet parent study. The company has compiled, analyzed, and shared the results for everyone to see – and the findings are fascinating! There is no doubt that pets hold a place of importance in our world today. In fact, 37% of those surveyed considered their pets the most important thing in their lives. The survey found that 56% of people owned either a cat or dog, and 47% of those are first-time owners. Why do we view our pets so highly? Many answers were given for why our pets play such special roles in our lives. Of the dog owners who participated, 50% said they appreciated the unconditional love of their canine companions most, while 49% answered family completeness. Cat owners appreciated the entertainment (48%) and stress relief (44%) of their feline friends. These relationships include pets of all ages. The study revealed Baby Boomers were more likely to share their heart and home with pets over 7 years old. Meanwhile, Generation Z and Millennials statistically had younger pets. Of the pet parents in these age groups that were surveyed, 70% were puppy owners, and 72% were kitten owners. At the time of this survey, these age groups span ages 12 to 43, meaning many are just starting their journey as pet parents by adopting their first pet (not including family pets throughout their childhood). As far as breeds, you may be surprised by the results! The most common dog breed globally was the Labrador (6%), followed by the Chihuahua (6%) and Golden Retriever (5%). As for the cats, the most popular breed was the Persian (16%), followed by the British Shorthair (11%) and the Siamese (9%). Of course, pet parenthood isn’t all sunshine and rainbows! There are some struggles and challenges we all face along the way. 32% of those surveyed reported feeling guilty about leaving their dogs and cats alone at home. This supports a 2023 study that found both pets and owners experience separation anxiety. As we continue to prioritize pets, will we see further changes in our society? The results of this survey indicate that pet parents strongly desire a more pet-friendly world at home and during their travels. Only 42% of respondents shared that they feel their neighborhoods are very pet-friendly. Meanwhile, 25% of dog owners and 27% of cat owners revealed that they find traveling with their pets demanding or challenging. What does all this mean for the pet industry? For companies like Mars, this is a call to continue growing, innovating, and adapting. As our relationships with our pet parents continue to grow stronger than ever, we are searching for products that support this newfound relationship. “Almost half (47%) of those surveyed are first-time owners, signaling a new era of pet parents,” explained Ikdeep Singh, Global President of Mars Pet Nutrition. “We know that pet parents are evolving, and we need to evolve with them, which means embedding pet parent centricity into our DNA to transform the experience and build lifelong relationships with the 455 million pets and pet parents we reach.” We’re excited to see what new products this information will inspire! Dog Who Went Through Three Failed Adoptions Finds A Forever Home

For Muddy Paws Rescue dog Sadie, the fourth time was the charm. After enduring three failed adoptions, the four-year-old pooch was adopted by her foster family.Sadie arrived from Kentucky at Muddy Paws Rescue, a foster-based New York City rescue in 2021. While the rescue searched for a loving family, Sadie was placed with several fosters but spent the most time with the GenilChin family. After helping the canine cope with three failed adoptions, the GenilChins made sure the fourth one stuck. Lizyle GenilChin told the People that she first met Sadie in 2021 when she and her husband Edmond went to pick up Sadie from another foster whose home was too lively for the dog’s comfort. “She was so scared. She was in her crate because that’s her safe space. When they tried to get her out, she peed. Eventually, we got her in the car,” said Lizyle adding, “She wasn’t walking at that point. She was too scared.”The couple brought Sadie home and introduced her to their two daughters and their dog Buko. The entire family, but especially Buko and Lizyle, worked daily to help Sadie overcome her fears. The family focused on getting their new foster dog comfortable with a leash and ensured she got plenty of playtime, which their dog Buko provided. “She was scared of the leash. As soon as I took it out she would go into her crate or cower. So we spent time in our backyard. She loved the backyard,” said Lizyle. With time, a lot of patience, and treats, Lizyle got Sadie comfortable wearing a leash. In 2022, Sadie was adopted for the first time. Unfortunately, the woman and her son weren’t happy with the pooch and returned her to foster care a week later. The GenilChins decided to keep Sadie occupied with hikes, playtime, and bonding to help her cope with the rejection.In January 2023, Saidy got a second chance at a forever home and was adopted again. The dog’s new adopters loved her and lived in a great location. Alas, the new owners realized they couldn’t care for Sadie like they thought and returned the pooch to Muddy Paws three months later. Once more, Sadie was placed with the GenilChin family. The pooch stayed with her foster family from April to October and they continued to train her. In October, Sadie was adopted for the third time, but once again the new owners realized they couldn’t care for the pooch.Through no fault of her own, Sadie ended up with her foster family for the fourth time. This time around the GenilChins decided to make Sadie an official member of their family and adopt her. “Every time from the beginning, we’re always like ‘Should we? Should we? Should we?’, said Lizyle. However, the family didn’t adopt Sadie because of their dog Buko.“We had our dog, and we wanted to keep fostering, If we kept her, I don’t think I could have handled three dogs.”But, Buko diet while Sadie was at her third home. Buko’s passing allowed the family to adopt Sadie and continue fostering with Muddy Paws. Sadie has quickly found her place with her adopted family and has come a long way from the scared dog GenilChins first brought into their home.“She has done a 720, this dog,” said Lizyle. “For a dog that was so scared of a leash, she loves to go out now, loves it.” Sadie also enjoys spending time in the backyard, sniffing out new smells, and practicing obedience commands. Sadie’s family hopes their experience will inspire others to foster rescue animals. “We are a family of four. The kids are scheduled up, we’re working parents. It was nice to bring another energy into the house that broke up the routine and the monotony. Bark Air, A New Airline for Dogs, Took Its First Flight from New York

Flying with a dog in the first class may sound like a dream for many pet parents. But, Bar Air, a new luxury airline has turned that dream into reality. The company describes itself as “the world’s first travel experience designed specifically for dogs first, and their human companions second.”The luxury airline took its first flight on Thursday, May 23, departing from New York and landing in Los Angeles. The inaugural flight transported six dogs of varying sizes - from a tiny Chihuahua to a golden retriever - and 11 humans, both passengers and crew. Before boarding concierges offered the dogs calming treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, and calming jackets to ensure a pleasant and stress-free flight. Once on the flight, the pups were served their beverage of choice during the ascent and descent and could munch on special cupcakes during the flight. Once in the air, dogs could enjoy a spa treatment and were offered blankets covered with pheromones for extra comfort. The crew is trained in dog CPR and fear-free behavioral practices to ensure the safety of four-legged travelers. The new airline is a subsidiary of Bark, a company behind several dog-focused brands, including the subscription service Bark Box. The company’s co-founder and CEO, Matt Meeker he’d been working on this idea for more than a decade.The company shared details of the inaugural flight in an Instagram post, writing: “Right now, at an altitude of 30,000 feet, there is a flight filled with dogs. Unlike any flight before it, these dogs are not merely an afterthought, nor are they treated like cargo or a burden to the crew and fellow travelers. Here dogs are the foremost priority.”“Every detail of this flight experience has been crafted with a ‘dog’s first’ mindset. It has taken 10 years, but we are finally confident that we can provide all dogs with the air travel experience they deserve: one that puts them first.”The inaugural flight was sold out, even though tickets weren’t cheap. Tickets for Bark Air flights from New York to Los Angeles cost $6,000 for one dog and one human in each direction, and one-way flights from New York to London cost $8,000. Many pet parents quickly pointed out that the cost is too high, but Meeker already acknowledged that in a May letter. “This is cost-prohibitive for most families, but less expensive than most options today. And this is also how most innovative products and services began,” he wrote. “Televisions, telephones, VCRs and DVD players, to automobiles, train and boat travel, and yes, even human air travel - all of these started with very high prices until demand was proven and the cost could be brought lower by serving the masses.”The new airline has no size or breed restrictions for dogs, but humans must be over 18. Humans are advised to keep their dogs leashed as much as possible, once on board, and to ask before approaching other passengers. Meeker, who traveled with his dog on two recent test flights, said that people hoped dogs would misbehave for the sake of the experiment, but they did no such thing. Even in moments of significant turbulence, all canine passengers remained undisturbed.“I don’t know why I’m surprised by this, but the dogs made it magical,” he said.The initial reaction to Bark Air has been extremely pawsitive.
